Apple has recently released iOS 11 update for iPhone and iPad, watchOS update for the Apple Watch and tvOS 11 for the Apple TV in this month. Starting from today, Apple has also rolled out the latest macOS 10.13 High Sierra update for iMac and MacBook devices. The MacOS High Sierra is now available as a free update through Mac App Store.
MacOS 10.13 High Sierra has arrived with plenty of new features. The new software update brings a new file system called Apple File System (AFPS) for Mac devices that come with inbuilt SSD drives. AFPS makes it easier to copy, move, delete or convert files compared to devices running on macOS. The HEIF and HVEC file compression standard that respectively reduces image and video files on iOS 11 is now also available on macOS High Sierra.
The Photos app has been significantly updated with new filter and editing features. It can also run GIF files and carries support for Live Photos effects. The Notes App now allows users to create a table. Thanks to machine learning, Siri can now better understand the preferences of the users. The optimized Mail app consumes 35 percent less storage space.
The Safari browser can load pages quicker than before. It is also equipped with some new features like intelligent cookie tracking, Read Mode and auto-mute videos that start automatically. During a FaceTime call, users can snap a Live Photo of the other person. The macOS High Sierra also carries support for Virtual Reality (VR) content which will allow developers to create 3D and VR content for Mac users. The low-level graphics API from the company has been upgraded to Metal 2.
To sum up, the macOS High Sierra does not bring visual improvements, but Apple has introduced plenty of background refinements. Hence, the interface of the new update is same as macOS Sierra. However, it is built to deliver better performance.
